s a soon-to-be graduate with a Master’s Degree in Strategic Communication, I am excited to take what I have learned in my coursework and internships and put them into practice.
I developed a passion for photography in high school as a military brat living in Italy. I loved finding the beauty in the details most overlooked, like a lock on an old gate or an orange cart on the side of the road. I was also able to develop my eye for sports photography as I volunteered as the team photographer for our base’s swim team. This ignited my love for using photography as a storytelling device.
I received my undergraduate degree from James Madison University with a double major in Mathematics and Studio Art with a concentration in photography. While these subjects may seem to be worlds apart, I have found there are many areas where the two disciplines overlap. One such area is social media, where you not only need to be able to think creatively, but also need to understand and manage a variety of metrics. More recently I discovered web design, where you must think logically in coding, but artistically in the design of the site.
In addition to my educational background, I have had the opportunity to work and volunteer in a variety of settings. As an intern with the Corpus Christi Football Club and a staff member of James Madison University’s student newspaper, The Breeze, I photographed the action on and off the field, creating images that captured attention on social media. I documented the campaigns of a variety of politicians and archived important photos for the Monroe County Democratic Committee. For my capstone project, I have taken on the revitalization of a local tap room’s website and social media presence.
My coursework has allowed me to learn and become adept at web design, research, podcast production, social media strategies, and UX design.
In both classroom and work settings I have earned a reputation as being a dedicated worker with a passion for learning.
